
Texto para un curso de uno o dos semestres de pregrado en química orgánica, esta obra esta orientada específicamente a los cursos británicos y europeos que se ofrecen en mejores escuelas en América del Norte. Se hace hincapié en la claridad y la comprensión, con explicaciones, muy cuidadosas, de los conceptos difíciles, con muchos ejemplos relacionados con la vida cotidiana, y un estilo de escritura fresca y amigable para los estudiantes.
El libro acompaña a el estudiante principiante en la química orgánica, a partir de la estructura de las moléculas, más de RMN hasta los temas avanzados, como heterociclos y la síntesis asimétrica. No se produce una disposición típica de los grupos funcionales como se ve en los libros de texto antiguos. Por lo tanto, se explican más bien los mecanismos y conceptos de la química orgánica con el aumento de las dificultades. De ahí que se puede observar, que un cierto mecanismo (por ejemplo, la adición de un grupo carbonilo) se puede aplicar a diferentes grupos funcionales.
